Frankly, this year kind of sucked. I mean, good stuff happened, sure, but enough shitty stuff happened that it all kind of evens out to a general sense of …eh. It was alright. These past few months especially have been a really weird time of transition. I’m hoping that the build-up is all in preparation for the awesomeness that will be next year.

I’m pretty stoked for 2011, not gonna lie.

I’ve got a huge road-trip coming up, and hopefully I’ll be moving to LA within the next year as well. Not to mention the fact that I’ll finally be 21, and therefore able to actually enjoy nightlife. (And spend all my money doing so.)

But really, I just hope that next year is better than this one was.

Woohoo! Challenge completed!

Would you like to save and continue?

Y/N

My first answer to this was that I would assassinate someone.

My second answer is that I would become an obscenely famous actor and seduce every man I’d always wanted to. Married or not.

My third answer is instating world peace.

I mean all three of these honestly.

Movies.

I’m constantly inspired by the movies I watch, whether it’s being inspired to draw, or to imitate a makeup or clothing style, or being inspired to be someone else for a day. So many movies have inspired me enough to shape who I am over the years, ranging from Batman to Clueless.

But that’s only one of the billions of inspirational things in this world.

Now excuse me while I go vomit rainbows.

Day 27: Something That You Miss And Something You’ve Found Recently

I really miss my childhood. Like, a ton. Life was just so much more fun back then. As for something I’ve found… I’m constantly finding things in my house. It’s a black hole for useless crap. I rediscovered my digital camera recently. But that’s kind of boring.

Day 28: A Picture Of What You Wore Today And What You Ate Today

No. Just no. All I’ve worn today is pajamas because nothing seems to be going on and I’ve only eaten cold turkey and grape tomatoes. And tea. So that would possibly make for an even more boring post than this already is.

Happy now?

Whittling this down to only 10 movies was insanely hard, but I figure these are only the movies that I think everyone should watch, not just ones I like. Because I like some pretty ridiculous movies. I kinda lost steam near the end, but whatev.

  1. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Why? Because in my opinion, it tells the most beautiful love story ever. It reverses the classic romantic comedy equation- instead of showing a ridiculously idealized and unrealistic relationship set in the normal world, it’s the story of a completely realistic relationship set in a sci-fi-tinged context. It’s real-world love in an unreal world. Not to mention that the cinematography is absolutely beautiful and the cast is fantastic. But I could go on for days…
  2. 12 Angry Men - This movie has been one of my favorites since I was a little kid. The original with Henry Fonda is best, but the remake was okay too. I think the black and white version just complements the story better though. The great part is that the entire film essentially takes place within a single jury room. It’s kind of hard to describe why I love it so much, maybe it’s just the simplicity. But it’s wonderfully acted and just a great story.
  3. Shawshank Redemption - It’s a fucking classic. Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins in a 1940’s prison. Heartbreaking and beautiful and uplifting and I just… hnngghh. I love this movie so much. Go see it.
  4. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels or Snatch - Alright, I say “or” because they’re both Guy Ritchie films, and fairly similar. But they’re both really good movies. Ritchie is a fucking artist with his films, so even if you don’t give a rat’s ass about the story, just check it out for the camera work. And soundtracks. And fucking hilarious writing.
  5. Leon; The Professional - The best hitman movie I’ve ever seen. Gary Oldman is frightening, and I wanted to be Natalie Portman’s character when I was her age.
  6. Edward Scissorhands - I had to include a Burton/Depp movie on the list. I mean, c’mon, they’re made for each other. The story is so whimsical and sad, and I love Danny Elfman’s score in this. Pretty much a classic, if you ask me.
  7. Indiana Jones or Star Wars - If you haven’t seen any of them, there is something fucking wrong with you. You are clearly suffering from a Harrison Ford deficiency that even a repeat viewing of The Fugitive won’t cure. Two of the best trilogies (we can just ignore anything that came after the third movie of each…) ever made.
  8. Amelie - Sweet, fantastic, and French. I love the visuals in this movie, they make you think that France is a magical place where all the colors are over-saturated and everyone is absolutely fascinating.
  9. The Producers - Probably one of the funniest movies ever made. NOT THE REMAKE, MIND YOU. THAT WAS UTTER SHIT. See the original. Gene Wilder, Zero Mostel, Kenneth Mars, and a musical about Hitler. What more could you ask for?
  10. The Neverending Story - If you haven’t seen this, your childhood is incomplete. Complete it.

Honorable mentions: Inception, for the visuals; The Departed, it’s just fecking amazing; Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob FTW; The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, because everyone needs to see at least one Sergio Leone movie in their lives; and Elf, just for shits and giggles. Mostly giggles.

Food:

Song: Miley Cyrus - Party in the USA - I hate her, but it’s just so fucking catchy.

TV: Gilmore Girls - Back when I actually watched TV, I was obsessed with this show.

Movie: The 1995 BBC version of Pride and Prejudice. Okay, so it’s more of a mini-series, but I’ve seen it a ridiculous number of times and I still get that warm fuzzy feeling when Mr. Darcy finally tells Elizabeth about his feelings for her.

ALL THE DELICIOUS FOOD.

My cousin is making me an entire tray of pumpkin mochi all to myself and I am just too stoked for words.

Yes, I am a fatass.

Day 23: A Photo That Makes You Feel Something

I was gonna post a picture of a hot guy like Mike Patton or Robert Downey Jr. and say something like, “Oh yeah, I’m feeling something alright…” but then I realized how much I love shots like this.

Behind-the-scenes photographs really get me because you see how much work goes into making these amazing movies and it’s like you’re now part of a really great secret. It’s like learning how magic works. I love that.

Yes, a behind-the-scenes snap of how they filmed the silhouette shot of Indy and Sallah lifting the ark out of its box is one of the few pictures that can touch my cold, cold heart. Go figure.

I can’t remember who got me into tumblr first… but I think it was Joel who told me about it. I checked it out, and now I’m a tumblr addict.

Joel = Enabler

As for the reason behind my name, I’ve been using it as a screen name on other sites for a while now. I got it from a doujinshi I read a long time ago. A character is sitting and reading a newspaper serenely and the caption went something like, “Sanzo was calmly reading his paper when, suddenly, BEES!” And then he’s inexplicably swarmed by bees that appear out of nowhere. I thought it was hilarious. And still do.

I don’t know if this counts as a phobia, but I’m terrified by the idea of ending up alone.

And as for an irrational one: FERNS.

Spores are the creepiest things ever and the idea of them just lurking on the underside of a relatively harmless-looking leaf is just… eugh.

Day 20: Someone Who Shares The Same Birthday As You

MAE WEST, BITCHES.

So cool. I also have the same birthday as Sean Penn, Robert DeNiro, and Davy fucking Crockett.

It’s okay, I’m jealous of me too.

I’m not sure, as it was a really long time ago, but I think the first funeral I’d ever been to was my great uncle. It was on a boat.

And now that I think about it, the first wedding I can remember attending was my uncle’s.

Weird.

Day 18: A Photo Of You When You Were Young

Yeah, I’ve always been this cool.

Yeah, I’ve always been this cool.

Hmmm… I’m pretty open about stuff I like, so I doubt I really have any secret hobbies…

I collect random bits of metal I find and keep them in a drawer. The most recent addition was a doorknob.

…Is that a hobby?

Day 16: Your Best Friends

Don’t feel like making a list, as it seems a bit… I dunno… weird.

So here are a few pictures of some of my favorites.
